    McGuire AFB, NJ Local Information

    McGuire Field is in central New Jersey and not particularly near any one major city; Philadelphia and Trenton are about an hour away; New York City is about an hour and a half away. The base has several nearby towns and townships, including North Hanover (inside base lines), New Hanover, Brown Mills, Wrightstown, Cookstown, Pemberton, Pemberton Township, and New Egypt. The largest of these is Pemberton Township, which is like a local sub-county, with a population of about 28,000, spread out among a lot of little towns, generally between one and eight thousand people each.

    The county is Burlington County, population about 450,000. The average commute in Burlington County is about 28 minutes. Burlington County's seat is Mount Holly Township, about 22 minutes west of base.

    Description of the Area:
    Burlington County is in a rolling plains area, with broken woods and fields, generally fairly green in the warm part of the year. This is not the most active place in New Jersey, but it is pretty centrally located in a fairly small state, on the northern side of South Jersey, and inland of the Delaware River Valley.

    Climate and Weather:
    The area has a humid, warm climate, moderated by its northern place along the Atlantic seaboard. Winter temperatures range from the low 40s to low 20s and summer temperatures from high 80s to mid-60s. The area has four seasons, with moderate snow in winter, occasional thunderstorms in spring and summer, and good leaf viewing in fall. Rain is similar through the year, about 4-5 inches a month.
